We reviewed the MRI findings in 35 patients with CPT verified by surgical pathology, including 18 choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs, grade I), ...SkiptomaincontentAdvertisementSearchallBMCarticlesSearchDownloadPDFResearcharticleOpenAccessPublished:20March2019ChoroidplexustumoursonMRI:similaritiesanddistinctionsindifferentgradesHuanLin1,XiLeng2,Chun-hongQin2,Yong-xingDu3,Wen-shengWang4&Shi-junQiu ORCID:orcid.org/0000-0002-6739-42652 CancerImagingvolume 19,Article number: 17(2019)Citethisarticle6694Accesses7CitationsMetricsdetailsAbstractBackgroundThetherapeuticplanningvariesfordifferentgradesofchoroidplexustumours(CPTs).TheaimofthisstudywastodefinethesimilaritiesanddistinctionsamongMRIsfordifferentgradesofCPTs,providingmoreguidanceforclinicaldecisions.MethodsWereviewedtheMRIfindingsin35patientswithCPTverifiedbysurgicalpathology,including18choroidplexuspapillomas(CPPs,gradeI),11atypicalchoroidplexuspapillomas(aCPPs,gradeII),and6choroidplexuscarcinomas(CPCs,gradeIII).NonparametrictestingbasedonrankswasperformedtoevaluatetheassociationofpathologicalgradewithMRIfindings.ResultsAmongthe35CPTs,29werelocatedintheventricularsystem.Thetumoursweregenerallyslightlyhypo-orisointenseonT1WI,slightlyhyper-orisointenseonT2WI,andmoderatelyorstronglyenhancedinpost-contrastimaging.Twentycaseswereaccompaniedbyhydrocephalus.ThemediantumourlongestdiametersofCPPs,aCPPs,andCPCswere28.6,44.6,and60.6 mm,respectively.Fourcaseswerepurelycystic,6werepapillary,10werelobulated,and2wereirregular.Threecaseshadnecrosis.ThemedianoedemadiametersofCPPs,aCPPs,andCPCswere0,0,and24.1 mm,respectively.ThegradesofCPTswerestatisticallyassociatedwithtumourlongestdiameter(rs = 0.68,P < 0.001),internalmorphology(χ2 = 10.32,P = 0.016),necrosis(Z = 2.27,P = 0.023),andoedemadiameter(rs = 0.72,P < 0.001).ConclusionCPTstypicallyappearedasintraventricularpapillaryorlobulatedlesions,oftenaccompaniedbyhydrocephalus.Largertumour,irregularorfuzzyinternalmorphology,presentationofnecrosisandwide-rangingperitumouraloedemamighti
