Shooting Stars: An Inspector Mclean Mystery
China's most famous movie star goes to London for a magazine photo shoot, and ends up at a construction site with a bullet in her brain. Her manager is missing, and Scotland Yard doesn't know whether she's another victim...or a suspect. A furious Chinese ambassador demands action. Anglo-Chinese relations teeter on the edge of chaos. Inspector McLean of Scotland Yard is assigned to the case and quickly finds himself out of his depth. He brings in an expert on the Chinese criminal gangs known as triads: the vice squad's Sally Chan. Together with McLean's enthusiastic, sometimes bumbling assistant Thomas, they depart for Hong Kong and Beijing, hoping the dead celebrity's love life will yield a few answers before political hell breaks loose. As the corpse count mounts, McLean takes increasingly desperate measures. Just how far will he go down the dark corridors of Chinese power in order to catch a killer? Shooting Stars is the third book in the popular Inspector McLean Mystery series by David W. Rudlin.
David W. Rudlin is a Tokyo-based executive, author and inveterate traveller with an unshakeable conviction that the secret to happiness is eating well. Born in the US in 1958, David attended Haverford College and Oxford University before spending almost all of his adult life abroad. He has lived and/or worked in the UK, Japan, Hong Kong, China, India, Australia, South Africa, Botswana, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and half-a-dozen other exotic locales he is too lazy to pull out of the memory banks. He and his Japanese wife Kaoru have one child, Julia, who is carrying on the family fixation with food from the canyons of New York City. "Shooting Stars" is his third novel in the popular Inspector McLean series.
