About the Author A proud national of the great island ＂Jamaica, Land We Love＂, the black, green and gold not only run deep within Mitzie’s heart, but define every aspect of her story. These colors of her flag not only reflect the struggle of a young girl’s journey, but her refusal to lose sight of a vision; to remain steadfast in her pursuit; dream bigger amidst impossibilities, dig deeper and reach higher. The second of nine children, the ever consuming determination to break the cycle of poverty, inadequacy and seemingly unreachable goals, have consumed her entire life’s journey. She knows all too well that the struggle to find your own space in life is very real, but so is The God who drives her everyday passion to go for that ＂gold＂ He promises. Despite the fulfillment in one of the most rewarding professions, she has never lost sight of the one thing which truly consumes her daily. A social activist at heart, she is intolerant of ＂merely going along with the flow＂ but continues to use her voice to bring attention to unfair, unjust or exploitative behavior; much to her detriment at times. To those who know her well, the words candid, passionate but caring and selfless have been apt descriptions. Mitzie has been a high school teacher of Language Arts and History in Jamaica and The Bahamas for over fifteen years. She has Bachelor Degrees in Sociology and International Relations (University of the West Indies, Jamaica); Masters in International Management Studies (University of Buckingham; UK); Graduate Diploma in Law and is poised to continue the Bar Professional Training Course, September 2018 (Nottingham Law School, UK). Her Christian journey began at the tender age of 10 at Barbary Hall Assemblies of God, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. She currently worships at Central Zion Baptist Church, Freeport, Grand Bahama, with her husband Dr. Timothy Williams and two children Judaea Elizabeth and Joshua Emmanuel.
